The Coalition of Advocates for Responsible Eldercare Political Action Committee (CAREPAC) is a non-profit organization that promotes quality long term healthcare in Oklahoma. CAREPAC is the largest long term care political action committee in the state. We partner with the Oklahoma Association of Health Care Providers, long term care facility owners, facility staff, service providers and resident families. Together we are committed to ensuring that the residents in our homes receive the highest level of care during a time when they need it the most.
In order to provide this level of care, our advocacy efforts are directed mostly to the State Capitol. With the help of our lobbyist and public relations team, we continuously work hard to build new relationships with elected officials and educate new leaders on the issues affecting our profession.
Our owners meet with legislators one-on-one, have them tour our facilities, and show them firsthand what it is we do and why having adequate funding and resources is important. This approach has been successful. Below is a list of some of our most recent legislative achievements:
- 2010: Defeated a proposed 10% cut to our provider rates.
- 2011: Long term care was the only profession included in the state budget that did not get an appropriations cut.
- 2012: Received a 10% increase in our gross rate, raising our rate by a gross of approximately $12.66 per day. The bill was passed by an astounding unanimous vote in both chambers.
- 2016: Defeated proposed 25% provider rate reduction.
While we are pleased with the victories we have experienced, our work never stops. We are always working to find ways to provide better care and to have more resources. In order to achieve more, e need your help. If you are interested in joining our organization, contact us today!
